Americans love their smartphones. Maybe not as much as the Japanese or other countries around the world, but we’re definitely in the top five in terms of our smartphone usage. And each year, especially as the mobile technology advances, we have become more accustomed to using the devices to support our daily activities. Not only do we use them to communicate, but we also use them to surf the web, listen to music, watch videos, and more.
A recent Nielsen study indicates that the global smartphone using population is expanding. If you’re a business owner and don’t have a presence on any of the various social networks, there’s a good chance you’re losing business given that 63% of American smartphone users browse social networks. And to add insult to injury, if you don’t have a mobile responsive website, you’re also risking alienating potential customers as 82% surf the web from their devices.
Meanwhile, 62% of smartphone users use a variety of different apps. App development is another marketplace that’s growing with an estimated 56 to 82 billion app downloads taking place this year alone. Having an app that reaches your consumer and provides value to them while they’re on the go will benefit your business.
Below is an infographic I put together that shows these statistics as well as some others. If you want to take a look at some expanded statistics, click on over to MobiThinking where they have tons of mobile statistics available.
